英文写读后感篇1

jane eyre was published in 1847 under the androgynous pseudonym of "currer bell." the publication was followed by widespread success. utilizing two literary traditions, the bildungsroman and the gothic novel, jane eyre is a powerful narrative with profound themes concerning genders, family, passion, and identity. it is unambiguously one of the most celebrated novels in british literature.

born in 1816, charlotte bronte was the third daughter of patrick bronte, an ambitious and intelligent clergyman. according to newsman, all the bronte children were unusually precocious and almost ferociously intelligent, and their informal and unorthodox educations under their father’s tutelage nurtured these traits. patrick bronte shared his interests in literature with his children, toward whom he behaved as though they were his intellectual equals. the bronte children read voraciously. charlotte’s imagination was especially fired by the poetry of byron, whose brooding heroes served as the prototypes for characters in the bronte’s juvenile writings as well as for such figures as mr. rochester in jane eyre (2)。 bronte’s formal education was limited and sporadic – ten months at the age of 8 at cowan bridge clergy daughters’ school (the model for lowood institution in jane eyre), eighteen months from the age of 14 at roe head school of miss margaret wooler (the model for ms. temple) (nestor 3-4)。 according to newman, bronte then worked as a teacher at roe head for three years before going to work as a governess. seeking an alternative way of earning money, charlotte bronte went to brussels in 1842 to study french and german at the pensionnat heger, preparing herself to open a school at the parsonage. she seems to have fallen in love with her charismatic teacher, constantin heger. the experience seems on a probable source for a recurrent feature in bronte’s fiction: “relationships in which the inflammatory spark of intellectual energy ignites an erotic attraction between a woman and a more socially powerful man” (newman 6)。 the brontes’ efforts to establish a school at the parsonage never got off the ground. still seeking ways to make money, charlotte published, with her sisters, the unsuccessful poems by currer, ellis, and acton bell. her first effort to publish a novel, the professor, was also unsuccessful. jane eyre, published in october 1847, however, was met with great enthusiasm and became one of the best sellers. as “currer bell” bronte completed two more novels, shirley and villette. she married reverend william bell nicholls in 1854 and died nine months later, at the age of thirty-nine in 1855 (nestor 4-5)。

the story of jane eyre takes place in northern england in the early to mid-19th century. (“jane eyre” 151) it starts as the ten-year-old jane, a plain but unyielding child, is excluded by her aunt reed from the domestic circle around the hearth and bullied by her handsome but unpleasant cousins. under the suggestion of mr. lloyd, an apothecary that sympathizes jane, mrs. reed sends jane to lowood institution operated by a hypocritical evangelicalist, mr. brocklehurst, who chastises jane in front of the class and calls her a liar. at lowood, jane befriends with helen burns, who helps the newly arrived jane adjust to the austere

the necklace: reflections and confessions of human’s vanity

“what would have happened if she hadn’t lost that necklace? who knows? who knows? how strange and changeful is life! how small a thing is needed to make or ruin us!” this is what impressed me most in “the necklace” written by guy de maupassant. i love the story not only due to the incredibly wonderful ending, but also because of the exquisite description of the weakness of humanity.

in his story, guy de maupassant creatively reveals mathilde loisel's dreams of a wealthy, splendid lifestyle. mathilde's lifetime of misery and despair is solely caused by her own selfish acts. and her vain obsession all ended up ruining her life.

vanity is defined as excessive pride, especially in your appearance. in mathilde's case, the "excessive pride" in her looks and charm caused her to feel as if she deserved a higher ranking social class and the wealth. when she wore the necklace to the party, she wanted to give the illusion that she was something that she was not. vanity caused mathilde to fantasize about her life and surroundings-to live in a world of illusion, rather than reality.

her life was affected in a negative way because of her obsession with vanity. it is so sad that she honestly felt successful the night of the dinner, just because of her looks and her surroundings. what a distorted view of true happiness and fulfillment! neither an elegant dress or a beautiful piece of jewelry can make a person who they are. a caring and loving person has to be unselfish. mathilde loisel definitely lacked a caring and loving personality. the only person she proved to love was the person she wanted to be. had mathilde not spent so much of her life selfishly, she and mr. loisel could have had a lifetime of happiness. the most ironic and interesting piece of the story is the conclusion. their lives were ruined for no reason. had she told mrs. forrestier the truth about the lost necklace, she would have known that the necklace was just costume jewelry. actually, it’s a tragedy made by herself, for she was conquered by the evil of her heart.

in pursuit of vanity may lead to the loss of ourselves. accept who we are and to be to true to ourselves or else it will contribute to constant unhappiness. happiness or misfortune, it all depends.

英文写读后感篇4

the night, the quiet night, to escape the noise of the city in the daytime, let himself immersed in a quiet, in his own small world, mr. shen congwens "border city", thoughts with the change of characters in the books and ups and downs...

the border town is a love story, the plot is simple and graceful, xiangxi mountain city tea tong palm water dock shun two sons of tianbao and nuo, while falling in love with the city side bexi old boatmans granddaughter cui cui. but cui cui was in love with nuo. when tianbao understood the truth of the love triangle, he knew not to be reluctant to withdraw from the competition. he had lost all of it, but unfortunately died. although nuo was still in love with cui, his brother died in his heart, and he was misunderstood by the old boatman, and he left home in pain in taoyuan. and cui cui alone bear all the changes, waiting, waiting for the person who may never come back, maybe tomorrow.

poetic city, poetic life, poetic interpretation of life. the beauty of humanity reflected in the book is permeated with perfection, while cui cuis endless waiting shows the imperfection. her love tragedy can be said to be the result of that age. she and exorcise could have been combined together to cultivate beautiful flowers of love. unfortunately, the two people lost their hands and left long regrets.

and now who will give up his love? in todays society, who is willing to give up what he wants, perfect love is what we want to pursue. in the border town, nuo gave up love for the sake of family ties, and family ties were important, but it was sad to give up love for the sake of family ties. and cui, who did not know that tianbao was because she could not get her love, went down and died, and did not know that exorcise was because she couldnt get her love and went away from the country. he did not know that his grandfathers sudden departure was all because of his happiness and worry. later, after accompanying her yang ma soldiers to explain to her, she just woke up like a dream, which really made her feel sorry and pathetic for her.

this is the end of the story, what is the end? leaving a suspense, did nuo send back at last? have they been together at last? i cant help falling into the illusion that i hope their lovers will get married. seeing the "border city", let me make a doubt about the perfect love in the world again, and have an understanding of the human nature, but also understand that my own happiness should be fought for, wont get, and there is no regrettable.

the border town is such a tragedy of love and purity, which is permeated with light sadness and deep poetry, and a tragedy of human nature.

英文写读后感篇5

this winter vacation, i read a novel about animals - "black steed".

"black horse" is written by british writer anna? in sewell's works, he observes the good and evil, beauty and ugliness of the world from the perspective of black horses. it mainly talks about a superior black horse that broke its knee in an accident. since then, it has been resold many times, tasted the cold and warmth of the world, and met many people: liars, thieves, coachmans, londoners... fortunately, the black horse was finally sold to a manor, and the owner promised never to sell it.

there are many touching plots in black steed. what impresses me most is such a plot: a small bridge was broken by the flood. at night, the black horse pulled the carriage to cross the bridge, and the owner sat on the carriage. as soon as the black horse set foot on the bridge, it felt wrong. no matter how the owner scolded, the black horse didn't want to take a half step forward. finally, the administrator across the bridge told the owner the truth. the host was very pleased. after reading this, i am really proud of the black horse and marvel at its intelligence. as the book says, "you have to admit that animals are much better than humans in some ways." i even want to have such a smart and excellent horse to accompany me day and night.

but what happened after the black horse made me very sad.

since breaking his knee, the black horse has become a coolie. once, a black horse pulled a freight carriage. in order to "dora run fast", the cruel coachman kept moving goods to the carriage, which was close to the limit of the horse. finally, the black horse could not climb halfway up the slope, and the coachman beat the black horse with a whip. at this time, a young lady came down from the opposite carriage, grabbed the coachman's whip, severely scolded the coachman, and helped the coachman unload some of the goods from the carriage. at this moment, my heart was full of complex feelings: anger at the coachman; there is praise for the young lady; and sympathy for the black horse

although the book has been read, human love for animals will never end. although animals can't express, they have their own views on things and know how to be grateful. i believe that as long as we treat animals well, they will certainly repay humans, and may get unexpected results.

英文写读后感篇6

oliver twist is written by charles dickens.

charles dickens is one of the greatest writers in the england. he was born in a poor family, but later he became famous and rich. the famous novel --a tale of two cities is written by him, too.

this novel shows us the cruelty and crime of london. oliver twist, the hero, is a poor orphan. he lived in a life filled with taunts. nobody loved him. with visions of his future, he decided to go to london. he thought a new life was coming, but he was wrong, a group of thieves were waiting for him.

the author created a group of bad men.

fagin, an old man, with a horribly ugly face and red hair, was the head of those thieves. he tried to make oliver be a criminal.

bill sikes was a cruel and evil man in the group. he had a bad temper.

monks, oliver’s brother, did bad things to hurt oliver. he wanted to get the legacies left by his father alone. he paid fagin to trap oliver into a life of crime. in fact, they were all afraid of being put into prison and being hanged. they can’t live happily.

nancy, a poor girl, loved a bad man. she had to help bill sikes perpetrate, because she loved him. she had to be loyal to the criminal group, because she loved him. actually, she was kind. she helped oliver at the risk of her life. if she hadn’t fell in love with sikes, she would have a happy ending.

the author showed these ugly things to us, he described an ugly world. but there are more kind people in the novel.

mr. brownlow, an old friend of oliver’s father, took good care of oliver.

mrs. maylie, harry maylie’s mother, saved oliver of his life.

miss rose is the aunt of oliver, in fact.

they all protect oliver from hurt.

oliver was unlucky to meet so many evil people, but he was luckier to get help from so many kind people.

in the end of the novel, all the evil people were punished. oliver got what he should get. rose married harry maylie and they lived happily. all the kind people have a happy ending.

righteousness can always beat evil. i think this is what the author wants to tell. although there are many ugly things in the world, we must believe that righteousness can always beat evil.

we must store kindness even though we are in ugly situation. one is poor if he doesn’t have kindness. one is rich if he has kindness. so please store your kindness in your mind.

what’s more, the novel also tells us to be brave. oliver was brave enough to overcome all the problems he had met. no matter how difficult the problem is, we can’t give up, we must try our best to solve it.

from oliver twist , i have learnt a lot .it’s really a good novel.

英文写读后感篇8

recently, i have read a very interesting book, the adventures of tom sawyer. and the companion volume is the adventures of huckleberry finn. this book described an american boy, tom sawyer’s fantastic adventure. the author of this novel is one of my favorite writers, mark twain, who was honored as “the literary giant” and was good at writing satirical novels. the reason that i enjoy mark twain’s composition is that he always brought me into a funny world by using very simple description but perfect writing skills and attractive story structures. nevertheless, when i finished reading his words, i would think some deeper and serious things that he wanted to convey to us. the style of mark twain’s composition is humorous but actually very sharp, which exposed the weakness and the hypocrite of human nature and expressed his desiring for a perfect and ideal world.

you don't know about me if you haven't read a book called the adventures of tom sawyer. mr. mark twain wrote the book and most of it is true. the heroin of this novel, tom sawyer, was a brave and active boy. but he got tired of his family, his school as well as the church. he was not satisfied with a hidebound life but dreamed of a free and venturesome life. this naughty but clever boy lost his parents since child. thus he lived with his aunt who loved him very much. he always escaped from school, and played various games with his friends. he even fell in love with a girl and tried again and again to win her favor. one day, tom and his friend huck came across a murdering. an indian joe killed a doctor because of disagreement and imputed it to another partner porter. the two young boys were extremely frightened and decided to keep the secret. but actually tom was anxious all the time. after that, tom had conflict with the girl, he leaved at home with huck angrily and started their adventure. people in the town thought that they had died. when they held funeral for these boys, tom and his friends appeared. since then, tom became hero in school, and reconciled with that girl. soon, the court was about to judge that murder case. when everyone considered porter as the murderer, tom bravely exposed the true murderer joe. but unfortunately, joe ran away, so tom was trapped into enormous anxiety. once time, tom met a partner of joe in a haunted house. he heard that they would go to find treasure. several days later, tom went to a picnic with his friends. but he and the girl becky got lost in a cave. they had suffered from hunger, thirsty, darkness and coldness for days in that cave. worse still, they found that indian joe also in that cave. this time, all the town folk believed that they must have die. especially tom’ aunt and thatcher were in deep sorrow. beyond people’ expectation, tom and becky found the way, and was sent to their home by others. and because of this accident, the cave was sealed. when tom heard that, he told the judge that joe was still stay at that cave. when the judge fetched someone to check it, joe had died in the cave. then, tom and huck got into that cave again, and found the treasure that joe and his partner were finding. tom got a happy ending, he became a rich man and was popular in his town.

the adventures of tom sawyer is a clear reflection of the child's life is full of children's novels. i have to say that clever tom reminded me of my childhood. we always lost something as we grow up and gradually got lost in our life. a child would not tell lies to other, a child would speak out their feelings without hesitation, a child would care too much about other’s opinions, and a child would bravely do what they wanted. likewise, in that time, people were pretty reserve, and they did not dare to tell their own ideas, neither fight against the tradition. but tom was brave. he challenged the tradition. he never restricted himself into school or homework like other child, he loved adventure and different challenges instead. he exposed the true murderer even though he might be dangerous. so the author mark twain designed a good ending for tom.

it was mark twain’s humor that attracted me most. but there was not only humor, people who read his books would learn something serious. he told us: tell the truth forever, such of words you need not record you to once say somewhat. someone said that mark twain gave pleasure—real intellectual enjoyment to millions, and his work will continue to give such pleasure to millions yet to come. his humor was american, but he was nearly as much appreciated by englishmen and people of other countries as by his own countrymen. he has made an enduring part of american literature.

in a word, i gained much from this fantastic novel, and learned a lot from tom sawyer. and i believe that these harvests will have great effects on my whole life.
